Rang de Basanthi...
A good, worth watching movie after a long time. A justified script, talented direction and a dedicated performance by the actors. The presentation was quite different from other patriotic movies. A good blending of the two stories, one set in the pre independence era and the other in the present day. Most of the patriotic movies tend to dramatise the patriotic feelings to a point where the audience start to not so relate to the story. The story of Bhagat Singh and others which has been told on the silver screen many times before has been retold but wrapping it in the present day backdrop, which I felt was a different way of presenting the script. Don't forget to watch out for the exceptional camera work.
The actors have out done their talents and I guess the full credit should go to the director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Aamir Khan as usual gives a flawless performance, even though his age flaws his collage going character in the movie. This flaw has been to some extent covered up by saying that he is out of collage five years back, which is difficult to digest. Siddharth has given a very good performance, even in the presence of big actors, he stands out. But will someone tell me where have we seen him before. He has a familiar face. Kunal Kapoor of Meenaxi fame is a very versatile actor. He has also done a very good job. Sharman Joshi of Style fame has used his comedy timing from his previous experiences of the two movies to add some lighter moments in this movie. Soha Ali Khan has changed my opinion about her, she is here to stay. Atul Kulkarni was a perfect fit for this character. A good thing done about his character is that he has been given a proper wardrobe. R Madhavan is the surprise package of the movie and has pulled out a good performance.
For most of the time the movie tends to hold your attention. But at times it drags. There are some typical bollywood flavors, like when Madhavan is giving out a party, all flaunt that he will be given a twenty one gun salute, which almost confirms that his character is going to end soon in the movie. The climax is also a typical Hindi movie stuff. I felt that could have been dealt more realistically. Over all a different kind of a movie.
