Wayanad Trip

27-12:5:30PM
We started towards Wayanad after visiting the Irpu Waterfalls. We were booked in Green Gates Hotel at Kalpetta, Wayanad. The least said the best. Don't be fooled by the snaps on their websites. The rooms stink, the bathroom are of 80's standards, the room service need three reminders to get anything. Not a good start for Wayanad.

28-12:9:30AMThe next day was a special day, our first marriage anniversary. We decided to spend the day together in some isolated place. Kuruva island was the prefect place. The Kuruva island, 950 acres of ever green forest on the tributaries of east flowing river Kabani, is an ideal picnic spot, far away from the disturbances of city life. Here we walked in the forest, crossing the rivers. Here you can hire a guide who will help you in crossing the rivers safely. But you can go on your own too. You can spend the whole day in the forest. There are tree houses in the forest where you can spend the night surrounded by nature. There are other resorts around if you want pleasure and comfort.

28-12:4:30PM
The same evening visited the Soochipara falls. Soochipara Falls is a three-tiered waterfall located 20 km from Kalpetta. You can drive all the way near the falls if you have a vehicle and dare to drive on that narrow road or park it at a distance and walk for about 2 kms down to the falls. Once you reach the falls, you can take a shower. But be careful, the floor is really slippery and you will fall for sure no matter how careful you are.

29-12:9:30AM

Next day visited the Pookot Lake for some boating. Its a fresh water lake, where you can boat peacefully. There are a lot of lotus on the banks of this lake. But plucking is strictly prohibited. Its surrounded by green mountains which give you a scenic pleasure. This place has to be visited early in the morning to enjoy the misty weather. There are some good handicraft shops, so be careful if you have a shopaholic wife or girlfriend !!!

29-12:2:00PM
On the way back are Edakkal caves. The name “Edakkal” literally means “a stone in between”, and this describes how the cave is formed by a heavy boulder straddling a fissure in the rock. Its really steep to climb. So venture into it only if your limbs and heart are strong. There are really small openings through which you will have to crawl to reach the place. Once you reach the caves you will find the nomadic carvings. Ask the watchmen there for details. Even today there are many who believe that Lord Rama killed Surpanakha in these caves. Once you see the caves, you can climb another 400 mts to reach the top of the mountain. But the climb is really tough as you have climb big rocks with the help of ropes. So don't venture unless you are very sure of doing it.

On the Kerla - Karnataka border is the wayanad wildlife sanctuary. Took a safari. We were back on Bangalore-Mysore highway by 10:30 PM. Had dinner at McDonalds and reached Home around 11:30 PM after a relaxing trip of six days.
