One night @ Call Center - Chetan Bhagat

A continuation of Five point someone kind of story telling. Some times witty some times dark. Some flashbacks, some fanaticizes, some happy moments, some frustrations, some hope...

Told from the point of view of shayam, a call center agent. frustrated with his job and equally frustrated and screwed up boss Bakshi. Trying to move on (i hate this word now...) with a ex-girl friend Prinkiya, who is in a kind of bliss after she gets set with a MS employed, Lexus owning Moran settled in US. A friend Varoom (Varun), who is angry with everything, but has a rocking life, lots of girl friends, pizzas, gadgets and not to forget his obsession with the wheels. A whore, slut named Esha ready to do anything for a modeling assignment. A over sentimental house wife Radhika and last not the least, a Military Uncle how is struck with a failed family.

In one night they screw up everything and then get a call from "GOD" from where the story telling starts to SUCK. CB looses his cool and in a hurry to finish the novel, takes the readers through a fantasy trip. Good material to make a B-Graded Bollywood movie. Thankfully all the bullshit comes at the last chapters. The beginning to almost till the end of the book, kind of keeps you glued to the story, but the end disappoints you. For who on the face of this IT world would keep his workstation unlocked, to be allowed to be misused by a ill treated team?

Some places CB has excelled in analyzing the situations and the human nature in such situations, spl with the flashbacks of Shayam's dates with Prinkiya. Prinkiya dumps Shayam only because he is not settled in his life, but never minds when she is getting screwed by him, even in places like a back of a Qualis. More over Esha turns Varoom's proposals down, saying she wants to concentrate on an nonexistent modeling career, but is happy sleeping with the modeling organizers for some return favors. CB rightly says, "Women are for all the romance and love and all that shit, but when it comes to settling with someone or to go for a commitment, they want the creamy layer of the lot"

Note: Don't blame me for the language used here, just over shadowed by the language used in the book :) Posted by Picasa
